
Three men suspected of kidnapping a trader from sector I-11/4 earlier this month have been arrested by the city police. The police also recovered from the suspects Rs570,000 cash, which was paid by the trader’s family as ransom for his release, Superintendent of Police (Industrial Area) Ishaq Warraich informed a group of journalists at a press conference held here on Thursday.
Police identified the suspected kidnappers as Arshad Abbassi, a resident of sector F-8/1, Ahmed Raheem and Zaristan, both residents of Katling, district Mardan.
The SP said that information provided by Aftab Muhammad Abbassi, led to the arrest of the three suspects.
Abbassi, was kidnapped at gunpoint from sector I-11/4 and taken to Peepal village in district Mardan. The kidnappers initially demanded Rs7 million from his family as ransom, but later agreed to a negotiated amount of Rs2 million. They warned the family not to inform the police in order to ensure the safety of Abbassi.
However, after Abbassi’s safe return, a police team lead by Deputy Superintendent of Police (Industrial Area) Ashraf Shah was constituted to trace the perpetrators. The two suspects from Katling were arrested with the help of Mardan police and as the case was registered with the Industrial Area police, the perpetrators were handed over to Islamabad police for further investigations and legal action. SP Warraich said that during interrogations, the suspects revealed the whereabouts of two of their accomplices and police teams have been sent for their arrest.
