Rapper 6ix9ine is facing a renewed push from federal prosecutors regarding his supervised release following his upcoming prison term.

In a memo filed ahead of his November 20, 2025, sentencing, prosecutors urged Judge Paul A. Engelmayer to extend 6ix9ine’s supervision rather than ending it, countering a proposal from the Florida probation office to terminate oversight after three months of home incarceration.

Probation officials argued that they have “exhausted all efforts and resources to correct Mr. Hernandez’s behavior” and no longer believe further monitoring would aid his rehabilitation. Their recommendation would place 6ix9ine under electronic monitoring briefly and then close his case.

The federal government strongly opposed this plan, warning that prematurely ending supervision would reward repeated noncompliance and send the wrong message to other defendants under court oversight. U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton emphasized that termination of supervised release for prior violations could encourage offenders to ignore their legal obligations. He noted that the structure of supervision has prevented 6ix9ine from further spiraling, highlighting his completion of delayed community service as evidence that consequences still have an impact.

Prosecutors argued that 6ix9ine still requires strict monitoring, counseling, and accountability to guide him toward consistent compliance. “While supervised release has not yet gotten Hernandez to where he should be, it has prodded him in the right direction. A new term is necessary until he can stand steadily on his own two feet,” Clayton stated.

This request comes just one day after prosecutors recommended a three to nine-month prison sentence for 6ix9ine related to drug possession and a mall assault. Judge Engelmayer will consider both filings when determining the rapper’s sentence, as the case highlights ongoing debates over rehabilitation and accountability for high-profile offenders.
