Stricter traffic penalties enforced citywide

The City Traffic Police (CTP) has released a comprehensive schedule of revised traffic fines, accompanied by corresponding regulations, to enhance public awareness.

The City Traffic Officer (CTO) has issued a stern warning to all motorists, motorcyclists, and vehicle owners to ensure strict adherence to traffic laws, stressing that no recommendation or external influence will be entertained in matters of traffic violations.

The full list of fines has been prominently displayed at all traffic offices, the District Courts Complex, and other key public locations across the city.

Furthermore, awareness and training sessions are to be conducted in schools, colleges, academies, and the District Bar Association to promote greater understanding of traffic regulations and responsible road use.

According to the newly issued schedule of fines, the CTP will issue a Rs5,000 fine to a motorcyclist for air pollution (emitting smoke), a car/jeep: Rs10,000, a Public Service Vehicle (PSV) Rs15,000, and a Heavy Transport Vehicle (HTV) Rs20,000.

Under parking in a no-parking zone violation, a motorcycle will be charged Rs2,000, a car/jeep Rs10,000, a PSV Rs15,000, and an HTV Rs20,000.

Fines for littering from a moving vehicle: motorcycle Rs5,000, car/jeep Rs10,000, PSV Rs15,000, and HTV Rs20,000.
