Wheat seeds distributed among flood-hit farmers
The University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) has distributed wheat seed among farmers in Alipur affected by floods to support agricultural recovery and promote cultivation of the food grain..
A UAF spokesman said on Tuesday that Senior Tutor Dr Shoukat Ali and Dr Umair Gul distributed seed among the farmers on the directives of UAF Vice Chancellor Professor Zulfiqar Ali.
The spokesperson said more than 4,000 UAF students are also participating in the "Grow More Wheat" campaign under the supervision of experts of the university and the Punjab Agriculture Extension Department.
The teams are heading towards six divisions of the province for a nine-day wheat campaign till November 16. The objective of the campaign is to raise awareness among the farmers for enhancing wheat productivity by two to three maunds per acre, he added.
He said that the UAF students would visit the fields, observe agricultural challenges firsthand and offer expert recommendations. The teams are covering Faisalabad, Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sargodha, and Sahiwal divisions. Students from the faculties of agriculture, social sciences, agricultural engineering and technology, and animal husbandry from fifth to seventh semester of BS and first to third semester of postgraduate programmes are participating in the campaign, he added.
The spokesperson said the campaign would not only help farmers adopt modern practices but also strengthen students' practical knowledge through direct field exposure. The wheat promotion campaign reflects UAF's vision to enhance food security, uplift rural communities and build a skilled workforce for Pakistan's agricultural transformation, he added.
