DI KHAN:

Police carried out a successful counter-terror operation in the Bangash Chappar area of Hangu on Saturday night, killing one terrorist and recovering a Kalashnikov, a hand grenade and explosive material, police said.

According to police, intelligence reported the presence of eight to 10 armed terrorists in Bangash Chappar who were allegedly planning a major sabotage or terror attack. Under the direct supervision of Hangu DPO Khan Zeba Mehmud, DSP City Amjad Khan and SHO City Mahmood Khan led a large force to the area.

Using modern weapons and an armoured personnel carrier, officers launched a search-and-strike operation and surrounded the suspected compound. As the team approached, terrorists opened fire. Police returned fire with professionalism and restraint, the statement said. In the ensuing intense exchange, one terrorist was killed; several others were wounded but managed to escape under cover of darkness and difficult mountain terrain.

During a clearance sweep, officers recovered the body of the slain terrorist along with a Kalashnikov rifle, a hand grenade and explosive materials. The body was taken to DHQ Hospital Hangu for medico-legal formalities. The search-and-clear operation was completed to ensure there were no further threats or suspicious elements in the area.

DPO Khan Zeba Mehmud praised the bravery of the officers and personnel involved and reiterated that Hangu Police remain fully committed to eliminating terrorism.

"Wherever terrorists are found, they will be pursued and brought to justice," he said, adding that the force stands ready to honour the blood of its martyrs and free Hangu of terrorism once and for all.
