Rodrigo criticises Homeland Security for using her song in a promotional video, prompting an official warning

Olivia Rodrigo has received a warning from the United States Department of Homeland Security after condemning the agency for using her song "All American B*tch" in a video promoting self-deportation.

The singer objected to her work being associated with the campaign, publicly accusing the department of spreading “racist, hateful propaganda.”

Her comment, posted and later deleted on Instagram, sparked an official response from a DHS spokesperson, who referenced Rodrigo’s own lyrics to rebuke her criticism.

“America is grateful all the time for our federal law enforcement officers who keep us safe. We suggest Ms. Rodrigo thank them for their service, not belittle their sacrifice,” the statement, obtained by The Mirror US, read. The remark appeared to echo the song’s repeated line, “All the time. I’m grateful all the time,” turning her words back on her.

The confrontation reflects an ongoing clash between Rodrigo and the Trump administration’s policies. In a previous incident, the singer objected to the use of her hit "deja vu" on an official campaign TikTok, commenting, “ew don’t use my sound ever again ty". Despite the DHS official's warning, however, her songs were removed from the videos.

Rodrigo has long been an advocate for immigrant rights and criminal justice reform, often using her platform to denounce immigration enforcement practices. In a past post, she wrote, “I’ve lived in LA my whole life and I’m deeply upset about these violent deportations of my neighbours under the current administration.”

Through her charity fund 4 good, Rodrigo has donated millions to organisations supporting girls’ education and reproductive rights. Her activism has also included visible support for Vice President Kamala Harris, with the pair promoting vaccine awareness during the 2024 campaign.
