Gilani urged to appoint Senate opp leader

The issue of appointing the leader of the opposition in the Senate took a new turn on Saturday as a PTI delegation met Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gilani and demanded an immediate decision on the matter.

According to sources, the PTI delegation, led by Barrister Ali Zafar, stressed that the appointment of the opposition leader should not be delayed any further, as it was a legitimate parliamentary right of the opposition.

"We have already submitted the required signatures … the opposition leader should now be notified," PTI members reportedly told the Senate chairman.

Barrister Ali Zafar said the delay in the appointment amounted to violating the opposition's privilege. "The opposition's right is being undermined," he said.
