Security guard dies after accidental gun discharge
A 55-year-old security guard was killed on Sargodha Road after an accidental discharge of his own firearm at a petrol pump, police said on Friday.
The incident occurred at a PSO petrol pump located on Sargodha Road, where the victim, identified as Fayyaz Ahmed, son of Muhammad and a resident of Dhadiwala, Gali 3, Jaranwala, was on duty. Fayyaz reportedly went to the washroom carrying his pump-action rifle.
The weapon accidentally discharged — apparently after slipping from his hands — striking him in the abdomen and leaving him critically injured. Hearing the gunshot, other employees at the petrol pump immediately informed the police.
A team led by SHO Sargodha Road Inspector Ali Imran Jappa reached the scene, broke open the door, and found the guard in a severely injured state.
Fayyaz succumbed to his injuries shortly after being pulled out. Police took the body into custody and, after completing legal formalities and post-mortem, handed it over to the family.
SHO Ali Imran Jappa confirmed that the case was accidental, ruling out foul play. "The pump-action gun was found jammed with a second cartridge, which supports the conclusion that the incident occurred unintentionally," he said.
