A suspected dacoit was killed in an encounter in the Satghara area, while his three accomplices escaped, Okara police said.
The police stated that four men opened fire on a team during checking.
According to a spokesperson, the deceased was killed by gunfire from his accomplices during the shootout.
The slain man was identified as Ajmal alias Adnan, who was wanted in 54 cases of crimes including snatching on roads, dacoity, and burglary. He was also involved in robberies at clinics and pharmacies in Okara city last year. The police recovered a snatched motorcycle, cash, and weapons from the deceased's possession.
The encounter took place after the gang had snatched a motorcycle from a citizen in the 36 Jora area.
Upon receiving information, the police set up checkpoints in the area. When officers signaled the suspects to stop at the 9WN-R checkpoint, they opened fire instead of complying, the spokesperson said.
