Crackdown on quacks stepped up
The Sindh Healthcare Commission has ramped up its efforts to target unlicenced medical practitioners across the metropolis following the emergence of HIV cases among children at Kulsum Bai Valika Hospital in the SITE area.
Acting on a complaint lodged by Valika Hospital's Medical Superintendent Dr Mumtaz Shaikh, the Anti-Quackery Team, in coordination with the assistant commissioner of Baldia Town, launched a series of inspections in Saeedabad, Madina Colony, and Baldia Town.
During the operation, two clinics were sealed, and two others were issued warnings due to poor hygiene standards on Friday. In follow-up inspections on Friday, four more clinics were shut down, while another four received warnings for continued violations. The sealed facilities included maternity homes, general clinics, and pediatric centres.
