Rockstar Games has reportedly dismissed several employees accused of leaking confidential company information ahead of the release of Grand Theft Auto 6.

According to a follow-up report by Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier, between 30 and 40 developers across Rockstar’s UK and Canadian studios were fired after being found to have shared private data in online forums.

The move follows initial reports that the dismissals were linked to unionisation efforts within the company, claims which both Rockstar and its parent company Take-Two Interactive have denied.

Take-Two stated that all terminations were for “gross misconduct and for no other reason.” Rockstar has since elaborated, saying the employees were let go for “leaking company secrets.”

A Rockstar spokesperson told Bloomberg, “Last week, we took action against a small number of individuals who were found to be distributing and discussing confidential information in a public forum, a violation of our company policies. This was in no way related to people’s right to join a union or engage in union activities.”

It remains unclear exactly what information was leaked, but the details were allegedly shared in a forum accessible to non-employees. Given that Rockstar is focused on GTA 6, set for release on May 26, 2026, speculation has centred around the possibility that internal materials related to the game were involved.

This incident comes after Rockstar experienced one of the largest leaks in gaming history in 2022, when dozens of early GTA 6 gameplay clips were shared online. The individual responsible was later arrested and placed under an indefinite hospital order.

With GTA 6 widely expected to become one of the most significant entertainment launches to date, Rockstar appears determined to prevent further information leaks before release.
