ASI accuses SHO of assault in Shadbagh

LAHORE:

A controversy has erupted within the Lahore Police Department after an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) from the Gujjarpura Investigation Wing accused the Station House Officer (SHO) of Shadbagh Police Station of manhandling and assaulting him.

ASI Tabbasum had accompanied a complainant to the Shadbagh police station to assist with an application when the alleged incident occurred.

The ASI claimed he was mishandled and tortured by the SHO during the encounter.

However, a City Division Police spokesperson rejected the allegations, terming them "misleading and exaggerated."

He said an internal inquiry had been conducted which found that the incident stemmed from a misunderstanding rather than any physical altercation.

The inquiry report stated that the SHO had asked the ASI to wait in a designated area while he interviewed the complainant alone to ensure an unbiased hearing.
