‘Twilight’ re-release earns $1.5 million as vampire saga returns to theatres
‘Twilight’ celebrates its legacy with a Halloween box office comeback

The Twilight saga is drawing fans back to theaters. The re-release of the 2008 vampire romance earned $1.55 million on Wednesday, according to early box office reports, as part of a week-long rollout celebrating the 20th anniversary of Stephenie Meyer’s bestselling novel.
The rerelease, distributed by Fathom Entertainment and Lionsgate, kicks off a limited engagement featuring all five films in the franchise.
The Twilight Saga: New Moon screens Thursday, followed by Eclipse on Friday, Breaking Dawn – Part 1 on Saturday, and Part 2 on Sunday.
Originally released in 2008 and directed by Catherine Hardwicke, Twilight launched Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart to international fame and grossed more than $400 million worldwide.
The full series went on to earn over $3.3 billion globally, making it one of the most successful young-adult franchises of all time.
On its first day back in theaters, Twilight ranked second behind Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc, which led Wednesday’s box office with $1.62 million.
The rerelease coincides with a quiet Halloween weekend at theaters, as most major studios held off on new wide releases.
Meyer’s books have sold more than 160 million copies and have been translated into 49 languages. The Twilight universe continues to expand, Netflix is currently developing an animated series based on Midnight Sun, a retelling of the original story from Edward Cullen’s perspective.
