Gujri made parliamentary language

PESHAWAR:

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly has granted Gujri the status of a parliamentary language, making it the sixth language to be recognized in the provincial legislature. Earlier, English, Urdu, Pashto, Hindko, and Saraiki were part of the Assembly's official proceedings under existing rules. The decision was approved unanimously during a session chaired by Speaker Babar Saleem Swati after former law minister Aftab Alam presented the amendment. The Speaker said Gujri has been spoken in the region for over 1,200 years and holds rich cultural and literary value.
