In an incident of so-called honour killing, a man allegedly hacked his daughter-in-law to death with an axe in Basti Wali Nagar, Moza Kambar, before fleeing the scene. Police have launched a search to arrest the suspect.
Police said the accused, identified as Faiz Bakhsh, attacked his daughter-in-law, Sobia Mai, wife of Muhammad Mujahid, inflicting multiple axe blows that proved fatal on the spot.
Initial reports suggest the suspect acted over suspicions about the woman's character.
Upon receiving information, police from City Mailsi Station reached the crime scene, collected evidence, and shifted the victim's body to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital for post-mortem examination.
A murder case has been registered, and police have begun conducting raids at various locations to arrest the accused.
DSP Saeed Ahmed Siyal stated that the suspect would soon be traced and brought to justice.
Meanwhile, a man allegedly set his mother-in-law on fire following a domestic dispute in the suburban area of Fida Town on Sunday.
The woman sustained burn injuries and was shifted to the hospital, while the suspect managed to flee. Police have launched a search operation for his arrest.
Police said the incident took place within the jurisdiction of City Police Station Mailsi, where the suspect, Aamir Sohail, pour petrol on Iqbal Mai and set her ablaze during an argument.
Rescue 1122 personnel reached the spot, provided first aid and shifted the injured woman to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Mailsi.
Sources said the incident occurred after Sohail became enraged when his wife, Sanober Bibi, who was staying at her parents' home, refused to return with him.
The intensity of the flames caused burns to Iqbal Mai's face, arms, abdomen and other body parts, though doctors described her condition as out of danger.
In her statement, Sanober Bibi said she married Aamir Sohail 10 years ago, and they have three children. However, her husband often became violent whenever she expressed a desire to visit her parents.
"Four days ago, he beat me and even placed a blade on my neck, threatening to kill me," she said.
"I screamed for help, and neighbours intervened to save my life. My parents then brought me to my mother's house for safety."
Police officials confirmed that investigations have been initiated and that efforts are underway to arrest the absconding suspect.
