Former CM among 18 contestants for NA-185 by-poll

Political heavyweights join race for seat vacated by Zartaj Gul

A total of 18 candidates, including former Punjab chief minister and ex-members of the provincial assembly, have submitted their nomination papers for the upcoming NA-185 by-election.

The deadline for filing nominations ended on Friday, October 11.

Returning Officer Muhammad Waseem Khan Jatoi said nomination papers were received from 18 candidates in total.

The candidates arrived at the returning office accompanied by large groups of supporters, who raised slogans and held rallies to show solidarity with their respective leaders.

Those who filed nomination papers include Dr. Muhammad Shafiq Khan Pitafi, Sardar Dost Muhammad Khan Khosa, Chief Sardar Muhammad Jamal Khan Leghari, Sardar Mahmood Qadir Khan Leghari, Sardar Muhammad Khan Leghari, Muhammad Ali Faisal Sadozai, Syed Abdul Aleem Shah, Akhund Humayun Raza, Sohail Mehr Din, Muhammad Latif, Zafar Bashir, Usama Abdul Kareem, Anas Abdul Kareem, Abdul Aziz Baloch, Mureed Hussain, Umar Adil, Allah Bakhsh, and Muhammad Rasheed Pitafi.

The by-election is being held to fill the National Assembly seat vacated after PTI's former parliamentary leader Zartaj Gul was disqualified by an accountability court and subsequently de-seated by the Election Commission of Pakistan.

Among the key contestants, Sardar Jamal Khan Leghari, Dr Muhammad Shafiq Khan Pitafi, Mahmood Qadir Khan Leghari, and Syed Abdul Aleem Shah are contesting on PML-N tickets, while Abdul Aziz Baloch is representing JUI-F, and Faisal Khan Sadozai is contesting from the All Pakistan Muslim League (APML).

Scrutiny of nomination papers will take place today (Sunday), followed by the display of the preliminary candidate list on October 13.
