The Punjab Irrigation Department has taken notice of alleged misuse of state land and financial irregularities reportedly committed by a privately-run executive committee operating under the nose of the Chief Engineer's Office, Faisalabad Zone. A report has been sought from the concerned authorities to initiate action against those found responsible, sources said.
According to reports, Executive Engineer of Hafizabad Irrigation Division, Muzaffar Iqbal Jappa, submitted an eye-opening preliminary probe report to the Chief Engineer's Office and other relevant departments, revealing large-scale misappropriation of funds.
The report pointed out that a private body — the Anjuman-e-Islamia Canal Colony Committee — had been illegally collecting income from mosque and canteen operations as well as other installations set up long ago by the irrigation department.
Jappa stated that numerous complaints had been received against the committee, prompting an investigation to protect community interests and ensure proper administration of the mosque.
