Fortnite is facing backlash from both fans and Doja Cat herself after posting an inappropriate tweet pretending to be the artist as part of a marketing campaign for her new in-game cosmetics.

The incident took place during promotions for Fortnitemares 2025, which features Doja Cat as part of the Icon Series. Alongside her new character skins, she will also appear as a boss on the Fortnite island.

To build excitement, Epic Games ran a campaign where Fortnite’s official X (formerly Twitter) account appeared to be “taken over” by Doja Cat.

The posts initially mimicked her writing style and included light-hearted references to her music and online persona. However, one tweet — which read “mother of rose toys” — drew widespread criticism due to its perceived sexual undertones.

The phrase was meant to reference her in-game skin, The Mother of Thorns, but many users pointed out the unintended implication, especially considering Fortnite’s young player base.

Doja Cat quickly responded to the situation, posting in the replies: “I told them not to [post], man. That’s not even me. I said, ‘don’t post that.’” She later added, “st cringe as fk, now I’m embarrassed,” expressing frustration over the incident.

The tweet was later deleted, and Fortnite reverted its account profile image back to the original logo, though some of the other posts from the campaign remain online.

While Epic Games has not yet released an official statement, fans on social media have called for the company to address the issue and offer an apology.

The controversy has overshadowed the upcoming Fortnitemares event, which is set to introduce new collaborations, bosses, and themed cosmetics later this month.
