People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has released a statement regarding the recent controversy surrounding political streamer Hasan Piker and the treatment of his dog, Kaya.
The comments follow a viral video clip from Piker’s October 7 livestream on Twitch that prompted accusations of shock collar use.
The footage showed Kaya reacting with a yelp, which some viewers interpreted as evidence that Piker had used a shock collar.
Piker, who has over three million followers on Twitch, denied the allegation, explaining that the device is a vibration training collar fitted with an AirTag. He stated that Kaya “clipped herself” while standing up from her bed, causing the sound that raised concern.
Despite Piker’s clarification, some online critics highlighted a blinking green light in the clip, claiming it resembled that of a shock collar. They also recirculated an older video in which Piker described such devices as “incredibly effective.”
In response, PETA issued a statement to The Hollywood Reporter: “Hasan Piker has denied using a shock collar on his dog, and we hope that’s true because shock collars are dangerous and downright cruel. They put dogs at risk of burn wounds, chronic anxiety, and displaced aggression.”
The organisation further advised, “Positive reinforcement is a far more effective training method and doesn’t betray our animal companions’ trust in us.”
As of now, Piker has not provided additional comments beyond his initial denial, and PETA has not indicated any further action.
