PESHAWAR:

A writ petition has been filed in the Peshawar High Court (PHC) against the shortage of flour in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, alleged hoarding, profiteering, and the absence of an effective mechanism for inter-provincial trade.

The petition seeks the court's directives for immediate action by relevant authorities to curb the crisis and ensure the availability of essential food items at fair prices.

The petition was filed by Advocate Muhammad Hamdan, naming as respondents the Attorney General of Pakistan, K-P Chief Secretary, Secretary National Food Authority and Research, Advocate General K-P, and the Food Safety and Halal Food Authority.

The petitioner argued that the ongoing food shortages, particularly the recurring flour crisis, and the lack of a regulated inter-provincial trade policy have severely affected the rights of the province's citizens, who face frequent shortages of flour and other essential commodities.
