A close associate of rapper NBA YoungBoy, known as 187 Derrick, was fatally shot in Lake Charles, Louisiana, on Friday night, October 3, 2025, according to a report from the Lake Charles Police Department.
Authorities responded to reports of gunfire near Juicy’s Lounge on Third Avenue around 11 p.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered a man suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries despite medical efforts.
While police have not officially confirmed the victim’s identity, social media reports and fan accounts have identified the deceased as 187 Derrick, a known member of NBA YoungBoy’s 4KT group. Law enforcement officials have launched an investigation into the shooting and urged the public to come forward with any information that could help identify suspects involved in the incident.
NBA YoungBoy, whose real name is Kentrell DeSean Gaulden, is a Louisiana-born rapper signed to Atlantic Records. He rose to prominence after his 2017 debut album reached the top five on the Billboard 200 chart. His “4KT” movement — short for “4KTrey” — has become a symbolic reference to his roots in Baton Rouge, representing loyalty, brotherhood, and identity. The term frequently appears in his lyrics, fan art, and social media posts, though it has also been linked to street violence and ongoing rivalries.
Following the news, fans expressed grief and frustration online, lamenting the cycle of shootings plaguing Louisiana’s rap scene. One user on X wrote, “Lake Charles looks peaceful on the surface, but it’s got dark corners — much of Louisiana does.” Another commented, “RIP Derrick... there’s no end to this shooting mania.”
As of now, NBA YoungBoy has not publicly commented on his friend’s death. Police continue to investigate.
