Singer Lewis Capaldi found himself in a hilariously awkward situation during Sky Sports’ live Formula One gridwalk at the Singapore Grand Prix, when broadcaster Martin Brundle accidentally ignored his handshake on air.

Brundle, a former F1 driver and fan-favorite interviewer, was moving through the grid moments before the race, looking for celebrities to chat with. After speaking to comedian Jack Whitehall and Superman actor David Corenswet, Brundle approached who he thought was Lewis Capaldi — only to realize mid-conversation that he was actually speaking to Capaldi’s brother, Anthony Capaldi.

Brundle laughed off the mix-up, apologized, and quickly turned to greet the real Lewis Capaldi, who was standing nearby. The exchange seemed to go smoothly until Brundle wrapped up the brief chat and walked away — missing Capaldi’s outstretched hand.

The Scottish musician took the snub in stride, shaking his own hand and laughing at the moment, which instantly went viral. Social media users praised Capaldi’s good humor, with one fan commenting, “Lewis Capaldi took it well, a Martin Brundle gridwalk at his best!” Another viewer wrote, “One of the best bits of TV I’ve seen in a while.”

Capaldi later reacted to the incident on X (formerly Twitter), jokingly posting, “B**ed by Brundle,” referencing the now-infamous handshake miss.

Despite the blunder, the moment has been celebrated online as one of the most entertaining clips from Brundle’s long-running gridwalk segment. Known for its unscripted celebrity interactions, Brundle’s pre-race coverage has often produced viral moments — but this lighthearted encounter with Capaldi may have topped them all.
