Former NFL quarterback and current Fox Sports commentator Mark Sanchez was hospitalized and later arrested following a stabbing incident late Friday night in downtown Indianapolis, according to a statement from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD).

Police said Sanchez, 38, was arrested on misdemeanor charges of battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, and public intoxication after consultations with prosecutors. However, authorities confirmed that Sanchez “is still in the hospital and has not been booked into the Adult Detention Center.”

Officers responded around 12:30 a.m. Saturday to a reported “disturbance in an alley” near West Washington Street and North Senate Avenue, according to local outlet WTHR. Two individuals were found injured at the scene — one later identified as Sanchez — with one person sustaining stab wounds. The suspect involved in the altercation was detained, police said, though details about the cause of the incident remain unclear.

TMZ Sports reported that Sanchez was initially listed in critical condition but later stabilized. A Fox Sports representative confirmed he was “recovering in stable condition,” without elaborating on the nature of his injuries or arrest.

“The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will make the final charging decision,” IMPD noted, adding that Sanchez “should be considered innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.”

Sanchez, who joined Fox Sports in 2021 as an NFL analyst and FS1 studio contributor, was in Indianapolis ahead of Sunday’s Colts vs. Raiders matchup at Lucas Oil Stadium, which he was scheduled to cover.

Before transitioning to broadcasting, Sanchez spent 10 seasons in the NFL, playing for the New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles, and Dallas Cowboys, retiring in 2019. He is married to Perry Sanchez, with whom he shares three children.
