Rain brings relief to metropolis

Weatherman warns of storms across the Punjab

Clouds returned to Lahore on Thursday, bringing light showers to several areas, including Chungi Amar Sidhu, Kacha Jail Road, Township, and Quaid-e-Azam Industrial Estate.

The drizzle offered brief relief from the day's heat.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported that partly cloudy conditions with chances of rain, windstorms, and isolated thunderstorms are forecast for the Potohar region. By Friday, hot and dry weather is likely in most districts, though showers are expected in northeastern Punjab. .

Over the past 24 hours, Bhakkar recorded the highest temperature of 40°C.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab issued a rain alert across the province, warning of potential flooding in hill streams and low-lying areas. A spokesperson said rainfall is expected until October 7 in most districts.

Districts expected to be affected include Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, and Wazirabad. Rain is also forecast for Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Mianwali, Khushab, Sargodha, Jhang, Nankana Sahib, and Toba Tek Singh.

Dera Ghazi Khan, Bhakkar, Layyah, Multan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Rajanpur, and Rahim Yar Khan are expected to experience thunderstorms.

The PDMA directed the commissioners and deputy commissioners across the province to remain on high alert and prepare contingency measures.

Meteorologists say the current system is likely to persist through early October, with alternating hot, dry spells and sudden bursts of rain.
