Nicole Kidman’s famous quip about her divorce from Tom Cruise has resurfaced online as news of her split from Keith Urban continues to make headlines.
The viral moment dates back to August 2001, when Kidman appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman while promoting her film The Others.
At the time, Kidman was navigating her highly publicized divorce from Cruise, whom she had been married to for 10 years. When Letterman jokingly asked about the separation, Kidman responded with a smirk, “Well, I can wear heels now,” drawing laughter and applause from the audience. The six-word remark became a defining soundbite of her post-Cruise years.
Interest in the clip has surged again just days after Kidman, 57, filed for divorce from her husband of 19 years, country music star Keith Urban. Court documents filed in Nashville on September 30 cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the separation, with the couple’s date of separation listed the same day.
Kidman and Urban, who married in June 2006, share two daughters, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14. Kidman also has two children, Bella and Connor, from her first marriage to Cruise.
Sources told People magazine that the pair had been living separately for some time before the filing, with Urban setting up his own residence. “Their lives were moving in different directions,” one insider said, noting that those close to the couple saw the split as “inevitable.”
Kidman’s 2001 remark, now recirculating widely, underscores how her personal milestones have often played out under public scrutiny — from her high-profile split with Cruise to her current separation from Urban.
