Disney’s temporary suspension of Jimmy Kimmel Live! became a major talking point when Kimmel appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert this week.

Early in the conversation, Kimmel lashed out at President Donald Trump for celebrating the hiatus, calling him a “son of a b----.” The remark drew loud boos aimed at Trump from Colbert’s studio audience, while Colbert chimed in with a tongue-in-cheek echo — “Mister son of a b----” — that prompted laughter and cheers.

The suspension followed comments Kimmel made about conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s alleged assassin. Trump, seizing on the news, declared it “great for America” and mocked Kimmel as lacking talent.

Kimmel went on to share how he found out about the suspension just hours before taping.

“It was about 3:00. We tape our show at 4:30. I’m in my office typing away as I usually do. I get a phone call. It’s ABC. They say they want to talk to me. This is unusual,” he recalled.

“I’m on the phone with ABC executives, and they say, ‘Listen, we want to take the temperature down. We are concerned about what you’re going to say tonight, and we decided that the best route is to take the show off the air.’”

He admitted he briefly believed his career with the network was over. “I thought, that’s it. It’s over. I’m never coming back on the air,” Kimmel said.

The White House dismissed the criticism, with spokeswoman Abigail Jackson telling Fox News Digital, “I’m sure all three of Jimmy Kimmel’s viewers appreciate his sad excuse for comedy.”
