The upcoming DCU film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow may significantly reimagine its main antagonist compared to the original comic, according to new reports.
Directed by Craig Gillespie and starring Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, the movie adapts Tom King’s acclaimed 2021 series. Alcock’s Supergirl was first introduced in James Gunn’s Superman, where he described her as a “total mess” who endured a far harsher upbringing than her cousin Kal-El. The film follows her as she joins a young girl on a cosmic quest for revenge — a storyline rooted in the comic’s plot.
Matthias Schoenaerts will portray Krem of the Yellow Hills, the villain central to the story. In the source material, illustrated by Bilquis Evely, Krem appears human — a ginger-bearded mercenary from a planet orbiting a red star. However, according to insider Daniel Richtman, the movie may present him quite differently. Writing on X/Twitter, Richtman claimed: “In the Supergirl movie, Krem is different than he is in the comics. He looks more like a monster and carries dead alien rats with him to eat.”
This rumored redesign has drawn comparisons to an alien creature introduced in Peacemaker Season 2, with fans speculating the change could tie into wider DCU lore.
Reactions among readers of Woman of Tomorrow have been mixed but largely positive. Some considered the comic version of Krem underwhelming and “vanilla,” while others welcomed the idea of making him scarier and more distinctive. Many agreed that adding a monstrous twist could strengthen the villain’s presence on screen.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is scheduled to release in theaters on June 26, 2026, as part of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s expanding DCU slate.
