GUJRAT:

The University of Gujrat will provide financial support to nearly 600 students from Balochistan and the tribal region during the ongoing academic year.

Presiding over a meeting of the Institutional Scholarship Award Committee, Vice Chancellor Dr Zahoorul Haq announced that during 2025-26, a total of 3,800 students at the university will pursue higher education through scholarships.

Currently, one in five students at the university is studying on a scholarship, and the goal is that by next year, one in three students will benefit.

For this purpose, the university has allocated nearly Rs250 million from its own funds, which will be distributed among orphans, minority communities, students with special needs, top scorers from secondary education boards, transgender students and those from financially disadvantaged backgrounds.

Professor Haq shared that 1,050 orphan students have received scholarships totalling nearly Rs70 million. They include 450 newly admitted students and 600 continuing in various semesters.

The university is set to award merit scholarships to 1,500 students from its funds, in addition to providing financial support to nearly 600 students.
