Punjab escalates action against illegal hunting practices

Punjab Wildlife seizes four nets, fines Rs55,000 in Chiniot raid

The Punjab Wildlife Department recovered four netting gears and issued three challans, imposing fines worth Rs55,000 in Chiniot.

The Punjab Wildlife Department has stepped up its province-wide crackdown on illegal hunting of wild animals and birds, with multiple operations leading to arrests, seizures, heavy fines, and the registration of cases.

According to a departmental spokesperson, the campaign is being spearheaded under the supervision of Chief Wildlife Ranger Mubeen Elahi.

An FIR was filed in Okara against two people accused of hunting quails illegally. In Multan, officials confiscated 13 netting gears, arrested three suspects, and lodged one FIR during the raids. In Jhang, two netting gears were taken and two challans were issued, with a fine of Rs30,000 imposed in one case.

Similar actions were carried out in Vehari, Khanewal, and Attock, where several violators were penalized under the provisions of the Wildlife Act.

Moreover, in a significant operation against partridge poaching, three hunters were fined Rs70,000.

Reaffirming the department’s commitment, the spokesperson stated that wildlife protection teams remain active across Punjab and will continue to pursue strict legal action against those involved in unlawful hunting and trapping.
