The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency has arrested Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf activist Falak Javed, sister of Sanam Javed, on charges of spreading anti-state propaganda and posting a doctored video of Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari on social media.
Falak was wanted in two separate cases—one pertaining to alleged anti-state content on social media and the other involving a fake video of Bukhari circulated on X. She was taken into custody from Lahore’s Ichhra area, where investigators said inquiries into both cases had already been underway.
Authorities said Falak had earlier been declared an absconder after failing to cooperate in the investigations. Following her arrest, she was shifted to the Women Police Station and will be produced before the court on Thursday.
Falak went into hiding after fake video case
Bukhari had petitioned against Falak last year, alleging that on July 24 she had shared a doctored video on X, which was later widely circulated and damaged her reputation.
The minister sought legal action against Falak and others involved, also requesting that her name be placed on the Exit Control List and an FIA inquiry report be submitted.
After the case was filed, Falak went into hiding, prompting Bukhari to move the LHC for relief. During hearings, the FIA informed the court it had formed a five-member team to arrest Falak, adding that her bank accounts had been frozen and arrest warrants issued.
Bukhari’s legal team also criticised the FIA’s delay, pointing out that Falak had been seen attending a PTI rally in Islamabad, where she continued to share video clips, but had not been apprehended until now.
