
The family of an elderly woman has accused Sandal Bar police of subjecting her to violence, leading to her death after she resisted them during a raid.
The police also took away a young man, two motorcycles, and other belongings from the house, the relatives of the deceased alleged.
The victim's family placed her body on a main road and staged a six-hour-long protest demonyration against the police, chanting slogans and demanding action.
According to the police, the deceased woman was n9minated in robbery cases and her sons were also wanted in such crimes.
Officials claimed that no one had subjected her to violence and said the Sandal Bar police were investigating the matter.
Sources said Sub-Inspector Shehzad Javed, the investigation in-charge at the Sandal Bar police station, along with his team had raided the house of Zulfiqar in the 31-JB area along Narwala Road lat in the night. When the police searched for Zulfiqar's sons who had criminal record, his 60-year-old wife Surayya Bibi resisted. During the scuffle, a shove allegedly caused her to fall, resulting in her death.
The protesters said the raiding team broke open cupboards, seized two motorcycles, and took Zulfiqar's son Khurram to the police station for interrogation.
Following Surayya Bibi's death, dozens of people placed her body on Aminpur Bangla's 32-Wala Bridge, protesting and chanting slogans against the police. They demanded action against the raiding team and their informant.
The protesters blocked traffic to Aminpur Bangla for six hours, causing severe problems for citizens.
On receiving a report about the roadblock, SP Iqbal Town SP Saeed Ahmed and other officers reached the spot. They negotiated with the protesters, assuring them of action regarding the death, after which the demonstration ended.
The police handed over the body to the family after completing legal formalities.
