A petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court challenging the alleged practice of barring social workers and welfare organisations from providing flood relief unless the aid material displayed pictures of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
The plea was filed by Ghulam Mohiuddin through Advocate Aftab Bajwa, who requested the court to direct authorities to end such hindrances and initiate legal action against officials accused of obstructing humanitarian efforts.
According to the petition, government officials were allegedly preventing social activists and welfare groups from distributing aid to flood-affected communities unless the relief goods carried images of the chief minister.
The petitioner argued that such conditions were unlawful and deprived victims of timely assistance.
The Lahore High Court's Registrar Office, however, raised an objection to the maintainability of the petition, advising the petitioner to approach the relevant forum instead. The plea urged the court to protect social workers and charitable organisations, allowing them to continue their relief operations without interference.
