Bill Nye, widely known as Bill Nye the Science Guy, has been honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The dedication ceremony took place on Monday, September 22, 2025, at 6357 Hollywood Boulevard, where Nye received the 2,821st star since the landmark began in 1960.

The celebration featured speeches from Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown, comedian Ross Shafer, and actor Joel McHale. Hollywood Chamber of Commerce President Steve Nissen emceed the ceremony, which was streamed live for fans worldwide.

Born in Washington, D.C. in 1955, Nye studied mechanical engineering at Cornell University before joining Boeing, where he worked on the hydraulics systems of the 747. After winning a Steve Martin lookalike contest in 1978, he began performing comedy, eventually leaving Boeing in 1986 to pursue entertainment full time.

His career breakthrough came with the launch of Bill Nye the Science Guy, which aired from 1993 to 1999. The educational series earned 36 Emmy nominations and won 19, with Nye himself winning an Emmy in 1998 for outstanding performer in a children’s series.

Beyond television, Nye has served as CEO of The Planetary Society, co-founded by Carl Sagan, since 2010. In January 2025, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, recognizing his dedication to science education and advocacy for evidence-based policy.

The Hollywood Walk of Fame honor reflects Nye’s impact as both a television figure and a science advocate, inspiring generations to embrace curiosity, reason, and discovery.
