Lucasfilm has released the first official trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu, the highly anticipated Star Wars film directed by Jon Favreau and starring Pedro Pascal. Set to debut in theaters on May 22, 2026, the movie marks the cinematic debut of the popular characters from Disney+’s The Mandalorian series.
Originally announced in January 2024, The Mandalorian and Grogu brings Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his Force-sensitive companion Grogu, affectionately known as Baby Yoda, into a new adventure following the fall of the Galactic Empire. The official synopsis describes a galaxy still recovering, as the New Republic enlists the help of Mando and Grogu to fight off remaining Imperial warlords.
The trailer teases action-packed sequences and new character introductions. Sigourney Weaver joins the cast as a skilled fighter pilot, while Emmy-winner Jeremy Allen White portrays Rotta, the son of Jabba the Hutt. Actor Jonny Coyne also appears as an Imperial warlord antagonist. The footage features Mando and Grogu facing off against robotic enemies, exotic creatures, and toppling a massive AT-AT walker in a dramatic mountain battle. The duo also enters an arena to fight a giant, Rancor-like lizard beast.
Fan-favorite characters make brief appearances, including Zeb Orrelios from Star Wars Rebels and the Babu Frik species introduced in The Rise of Skywalker.
“This is an exciting opportunity to bring these beloved characters to the big screen,” said Favreau in a previous statement. “I’ve loved exploring George Lucas’ galaxy, and this film takes us deeper than ever.”
The film is produced by Favreau, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, and Chief Creative Officer Dave Filoni, known for his work on The Clone Wars.
