Netflix has reportedly revived The Rats: A Witcher Tale, a spin-off focusing on the band of teenage thieves Ciri encounters at the end of The Witcher Season 3. Originally scrapped last April after only two months of filming and footage for just one or two episodes, the project was believed to be folded into flashbacks for Season 4. However, early footage reportedly led Netflix to shelve plans for a full independent season.

Now, according to Redanian Intelligence, The Rats is back in development — this time as a standalone film. The story centers on six teenage thieves who must use their criminal skills to pull off the biggest heist of their lives against a dangerous crime syndicate.

The film will be directed by Mairzee Almas and written by Haily Hall, with The Witcher showrunner Lauren Hissrich and executive producer Tomek Baginski producing. It is expected to follow the same gang of misfits introduced in Season 3, Episode 8, though it’s unclear if Dolph Lundgren, who played the witcher Brehen, will return.

This movie is the latest live-action adaptation in Netflix’s Witcher universe, which follows Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter navigating a world where humans are often more dangerous than monsters.
