The standoff between Special Assistant for Relief Nek Muhammad Khan and the Secretary of Education has deepened, with two separate privilege motions submitted against the secretary. Both motions are scheduled to be presented during today's provincial assembly session.
The dispute erupted a few days ago after a confrontation between the Special Assistant and the Education Secretary, which was followed by a protest at the secretariat. In response, Nek Muhammad Khan filed a privilege motion in the Assembly Secretariat, demanding action over what he termed as misconduct.
Simultaneously, members of the Sub-Committee of the Standing Committee on Education, including Iftikhar Ali Mashwani, Abdul Salam, and Sobia Shahid, also submitted a privilege motion.
In their motion, the members alleged that a meeting of the sub-committee had been convened on September 15, but neither the Education Secretary nor any other departmental official attended. Furthermore, no prior intimation of absence was provided, leaving committee members waiting in vain.
The inclusion of both privilege motions on Monday's assembly agenda signals growing friction between lawmakers and bureaucrats, highlighting the widening gap.
