Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has directed the resumption of work on the long-delayed Ghotki-Kandhkot bridge project over the River Indus, which had been suspended due to floods and related issues.
Chairing a high-level meeting at the CM House on Thursday, he said he would personally visit the construction site in November to review progress and instructed the works minister to ensure the project is completed within 18 months.
The meeting was attended by provincial ministers Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar and Haji Ali Hassan Zardari, CM's special assistant Syed Qasim Naveed, Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah, IG Police Ghulam Nabi Memon, Home Secretary Iqbal Memon, Principal Secretary Agha Wasif, Works Secretary Nawaz Soho, Transport Secretary Asad Zamin and other senior officials.
Wheat crisis
In a separate meeting with the agriculture, food, and finance departments, the chief minister expressed concern over declining wheat production and stressed that ensuring food security, in line with PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari's directives, is the government's top priority.
He noted that wheat output in Sindh fell from 4.592 million metric tons in 2023-24 to 3.542m metric tons this year due to the absence of a support price.
