Unsolved female murder cases under probe

The Punjab Police Monitoring Cell has formally sought a comprehensive record of all cases involving the unexplained murders of women, unidentified or unrecognised female bodies discovered in canals or other locations, as well as suicide attempts or completed suicides, under Section 174 of the CrPC, for the period from 2019 to September 2025 across the province.

This request pertains to incidents from Rawalpindi and other districts. Investigation Officers (IOs) in charge have been instructed to personally present both the case records and themselves before the Additional IG Monitoring Punjab.

In a detailed communication, the Additional IG Monitoring Punjab has issued a directive to district police officers throughout Punjab, including those in Lahore and Rawalpindi, requesting the presence of Investigation In-charges. The letter clarifies that the relevant authorities have ordered the submission of records pertaining to the following categories of incidents: Unsolved murders of women or cases where the identity of the deceased female remains unknown, incidents where unidentified or unrecognised female bodies have been recovered from canals or other locations, cases involving female suicide attempts or completed suicides, any case under Section 174 CrPC, where a report has been lodged and an investigation is underway.
