Sony Pictures has released the first official photos of Anaconda, a meta reboot of the 1997 action-thriller, starring Jack Black and Paul Rudd.

Directed by Tom Gormican (The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent), the film blends comedy and horror while reimagining the cult classic. It is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 25, 2025.

Black and Rudd portray Doug and Griff, lifelong best friends who have always dreamed of remaking their favorite film, Anaconda. Their midlife crisis pushes them to finally pursue the idea, traveling to the Amazon to shoot their version. However, their plan quickly spirals out of control when a real giant snake emerges, turning the lighthearted project into a deadly struggle for survival.

The cast also features Thandiwe Newton, Steve Zahn, Daniela Melchior, and Selton Mello. Zahn praised the experience of working alongside Black and Rudd, admitting that he “messed up so many takes” from laughing at his co-stars’ performances.

Paul Rudd described the film as “a genuine kick in the ass,” adding that the clever script and self-aware humor drew him to the project. Jack Black echoed the sentiment, calling the opportunity to work with Rudd “the main reason” he joined the production.

The original Anaconda (1997), starring Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, and Jon Voight, became a surprise box office hit and later developed a cult following. This new version aims to capture that legacy while offering a fresh, comedic twist.

With its mix of meta humor, horror elements, and star power, Anaconda positions itself as one of the major holiday releases of 2025.
