Seth Goldman’s memory lives on as a Shrine Guardian

After seven years in development, Silksong has finally been released—and with it, a touching tribute to a fan who left a lasting impact on the game's journey.

Back in 2020, Team Cherry met with Seth Goldman, a dedicated Hollow Knight fan who was battling cancer. Through the Marty Lyons Foundation, Seth got the opportunity to connect with the developers. During that meeting, Team Cherry made a heartfelt promise: they would include a character of Seth’s own design in Silksong, named directly after him.

Sadly, Seth passed away before the game’s release. But his legacy now lives on within the world he loved so much. In Silksong, players can discover Seth as a secret boss hidden within a tucked-away area of Grand Gate.

Six years ago, Seth (Reddit user big_boi878) shared his excitement in a post, revealing that Team Cherry had agreed to include his creation in the game. “He’s really cool and has a boss fight,” he wrote. “I named him after myself (Seth) […] I can’t wait for you to see him, and see his cool lore and design and gameplay.”

To find Seth in the game, players must uncover a hidden room by smashing through a wall at the top of an elevator shaft in Grand Gate. Inside awaits the boss fight he helped create.

Following the game's release, the Hollow Knight community has taken to social media to honor Seth's memory. “I wish so badly that we could play Silksong together,” one fan wrote. “But I’m glad you’ll still be there in some form.”

Seth’s inclusion is a moving reminder of the bond between creators and their fans—and the power of games to preserve a legacy.
