A woman has revealed that her mother is cousins with Hollywood actress Anne Hathaway after tracing her adoption records and family tree.
The woman, who posts online under the name Halo, shared the surprising discovery on X, saying her family had long joked that her mother looked strikingly similar to Hathaway. Her mother, who was adopted as an infant, later found her biological parents and uncovered that the Oscar-winning star was in fact part of their extended family.
Halo wrote: “My mama was adopted as an infant and we had a running joke her whole life that Anne was her long-lost sister because of the physical resemblance being uncanny. Last year my mom found her birth parents, only to discover she’s our cousin.”
Alongside her post, Halo shared an old photo of her mother, with many online users commenting on how much she resembled the Devil Wears Prada and Les Misérables actress. The post quickly went viral, with users calling the resemblance “uncanny” and “crazy.”
While some social media users accused her of making up the story, Halo defended her claim, saying the family’s discovery came directly from official records. She called Hathaway “the coolest possible person in the entire world to be related to” and said she felt lucky about the connection.
Hathaway, who has not publicly commented on the story, continues to be one of Hollywood’s most recognizable stars. For Halo and her family, the discovery adds an unexpected chapter to their own history, turning a family joke into a real-life celebrity connection.
