Drake and Twitch star Kai Cenat, who once collaborated on creative projects, have gone from collaborators to apparent rivals after Cenat’s critique of Drake’s latest work. Cenat, one of the most prominent streamers online, directed a Drake music video and gave a closing address at the rapper’s “Streamer University” event in May. But their rapport may have shifted following Cenat’s recent comments.
On September 5, during his Mafiathon 3 subathon, Cenat offered a harsh review of the third episode of Drake’s Iceman series. “I can’t fake it, I can’t fake it. That was so a--,” he said, according to reporting by Daryl Nelson.
Drake seemed to respond days later with Instagram posts that many interpreted as mocking Cenat. One of the photos zoomed in on Cenat’s head, highlighting his braids. Followers quickly connected the post to the streamer’s earlier comments. “Postin Kai new growth wild,” wrote one Instagram user, while another criticized Drake for engaging with the situation, saying, “Imagine pushing 40 and getting mad over the opinion of a twitch streamer.”
Cenat addressed the image live on his stream, seemingly surprised and upset. “Why would he post this? Where did you get this from?” he asked, before attempting to call Drake. His phone call went to voicemail, and his subsequent FaceTime attempt was unanswered.
Drake, for his part, has yet to clarify his intent behind the posts. However, the rapper recently suggested in an interview with podcaster Bobbi Althoff that media outlets often work collectively to discredit his projects. That context has fueled speculation that he viewed Cenat’s critique as unfair.
For now, the situation remains unresolved, with both stars keeping fans guessing about whether their relationship can recover.
