ISLAMABAD:

A delegation of the Pakistan Business Council (PBC), led by CEO Javed Kureishi and Chairperson Dr Zeelaf Munir, called on Federal Finance and Revenue Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb at the Finance Division on Wednesday.

According to an official statement, the minister welcomed the delegation and briefed them on the state of the economy. He said macroeconomic indicators are moving in the right direction. He underlined that reforms in State-Owned Enterprises, privatisation, and right-sizing of the public sector are progressing, laying the ground for long-term stability.

Aurangzeb stressed the importance of stability in the exchange rate and policy rate, saying these trends are expected to continue. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to macroeconomic stability and to creating a business-friendly environment. He added that upgrading ports, roads, and railways is critical to domestic commerce and external trade.

The minister updated the delegation on tariff negotiations with the United States, which he said could create opportunities for Pakistani exporters due to regional competitive advantages. He urged PBC and similar bodies to lead targeted business-to-business engagements to boost bilateral trade and investment.

He also highlighted the outcomes of the prime minister's recent visit to China. The trip included high-level dialogues, working groups, and major private sector participation. These engagements have already produced traction and several MoUs, he noted.
