Police foiled an attempt to mislead the court when a proclaimed offender sent his friend to appear on his behalf during a hearing.
According to details, Bilal Khan, wanted in a case registered at Lohi Bher Police Station since 2021, had filed a plea for interim bail which came up for hearing before Additional Sessions Judge Jahangir Awan. At the start of the proceedings, a man appeared in court claiming to be Bilal Khan.
The judge dismissed the bail plea and ordered his arrest. However, as police took him into custody, the man pleaded that he was not Bilal Khan. On verification through his identity card, he was revealed to be Shahid Karim, who had impersonated the accused.
The court expressed strong displeasure and directed Shahid Karim's immediate arrest for misleading the court. Meanwhile, Lohi Bher police, acting on court orders, arrested the real proclaimed offender Bilal Khan within hours.
Police sources said Shahid Karim, who is also a record-holder facing fraud cases, confessed that Bilal Khan was his friend and had asked him to appear in court on his behalf. Both suspects have been taken into custody and legal proceedings initiated.
