Amazon is ending its Prime Invitee program, which allowed members to share free shipping benefits with people outside their households.

The change takes effect on October 1, 2025, and reflects the company’s push to encourage more individual subscriptions.

The Prime Invitee program only covered free shipping, but Amazon says it will be replaced with Amazon Family, which offers broader benefits. Under Amazon Family, members can share free two-day shipping with one other adult in the same household, as well as up to four teens (added before April 7) and four child profiles. In addition to shipping, participants can share Prime Video, Amazon Music, and other services.

To ease the transition, Amazon is offering a limited-time discount for people previously using Prime Invitee. Eligible users can purchase a one-year Prime membership for $14.99. After the first year, pricing reverts to $14.99 per month or $139 annually, the standard membership cost. The discounted offer begins September 5, 2025, and runs through December 31, 2025.

Amazon last raised its Prime membership fee in 2022, increasing it from $119 to $139. By ending Invitee sharing, the company is signaling a stronger focus on individual memberships while keeping shared access within households.

The announcement comes as Amazon invests in expanding its delivery network across the U.S., including smaller towns and rural areas. The company recently revealed its fast-shipping service is now available in 1,000 smaller communities, with plans to extend coverage by year’s end.

Amazon has not indicated whether further adjustments to Prime membership benefits will follow.
