Tony Award-winning actress Jane Krakowski is set to join the hit Broadway comedy Oh, Mary! in the lead role of Mary Todd Lincoln. Krakowski will begin an eight-week run starting October 14, producers announced, marking her return to Broadway for the first time since her Tony-nominated performance in She Loves Me in 2016.
The role, originally created and played by Cole Escola—who also wrote the play and won a Tony Award for their performance—has seen multiple high-profile replacements during the show’s run, including Tituss Burgess, Betty Gilpin, and current lead Jinkx Monsoon. Monsoon will end her tenure on September 28. Between her departure and Krakowski’s debut, understudy Hannah Solow, who has been with the production since its Off-Broadway days, will take on the role from September 30 through October 12.
Directed by Tony Award winner Sam Pinkleton, Oh, Mary! officially opened on Broadway on July 11, 2024, after an acclaimed Off-Broadway run. The absurdist comedy has proven to be a commercial and critical success, breaking its own box office record a dozen times and becoming the first show of the 2024–25 Broadway season to recoup its investment. Tickets are currently on sale through July 5, 2026.
In a statement, Krakowski expressed her gratitude and excitement, saying, “Thank you, Cole, for giving us this madcap work of genius, directed to perfection by Tony Award winner Sam Pinkleton. I am so honored to slip into the bratty curls previously worn by (my Tony Award winning zaddy) Cole Escola, (my sister wife) Betty Gilpin, (my comedy brother) Tituss Burgess, and (mother) Jinkx Monsoon.”
Krakowski’s Broadway credits include Nine (Tony Award), Grand Hotel (Tony nomination), Company, Tartuffe, and Starlight Express. She also won an Olivier Award for her performance in Guys and Dolls on the West End.
