Diabetic specialist Dr BM Rathore has said that every third adult in the country is affected by the disease. Talking to a private news channel, he noted that common symptoms of diabetes include frequent urination, excessive thirst, sudden weight loss, constant fatigue, and slow healing of wounds.
If these symptoms are ignored, the condition can worsen and lead to serious health complications such as heart disease, kidney failure, and vision problems, he added. Explaining the types of diabetes, Dr Rathore elaborated that there are mainly two types, Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.
Type 1 is usually diagnosed in childhood and is caused by the body's inability to produce insulin. Type 2, which is more common, often develops in adults and is linked to poor diet, lack of physical activity, and obesity, he elaborated.
As for treatment, he said that while diabetes cannot be completely cured, it can be effectively managed through a combination of medication, regular exercise, and a balanced diet. He emphasized the importance of reducing sugar intake, eating more fibre-rich foods, and monitoring blood sugar levels regularly.
He also encouraged lifestyle changes to prevent the disease, especially among those with a family history of diabetes.
