The Peshawar Uplift and Development Task Force, constituted by Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, convened a meeting on Saturday under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah to review measures for the city's improvement and civic development.
The meeting was attended by MNA Asif Khan, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Muhammad Asim Khan, Secretary Planning and Development, Commissioner Peshawar Division, and heads of the PDA and WSSP, along with other officials.
Participants discussed coordination among departments for ongoing development initiatives, building control regulations, traffic management, and the effective implementation of Peshawar's master plan. The DG PDA briefed the forum on the city's beautification drive, ongoing schemes, and capacity-building measures.
It was decided that cleanliness and beautification would remain top priorities, with all drainage channels to be cleaned in coordination with WSSP to prevent urban flooding during monsoon rains. Completion of the Ring Road and its linkages was declared essential to ease traffic congestion and improve travel facilities.
The forum also approved measures to modernize PDA operations, including shifting to a cashless payment system by December and going fully paperless by September 30. A call-back system for public complaints and the formal notification of service delivery mechanisms were also directed.
Suggestions were floated to outsource water supply and sanitation services for efficiency, establish an Enforcement Directorate, and introduce Khuli Kacheris along with an AI-based complaint registration system to boost citizen engagement and accountability.
Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah urged all stakeholders to ensure timely progress, stressing that collective efforts were vital to transforming Peshawar into a modern, safe, and livable city.
