With Black Ops 7 on the horizon, Call of Duty players are coming to terms with a major change: cosmetics from Black Ops 6 won’t carry forward into the new game.
Over recent years, many CoD fans have expressed frustration with the increasing number of over-the-top, cartoonish skins—like crossovers with Beavis and Butthead, American Dad, and Godzilla. Many have been asking for a return to more grounded, military-style cosmetics.
The developers appear to be responding. “Black Ops 7 needs to feel authentic to Call of Duty and its setting. That is why Black Ops 6 Operator and Weapon content will not carry forward,” they explained. However, these skins will still be available in Warzone.
The decision has sparked mixed reactions. Some players welcomed the shift toward authenticity, hoping it leads to a more grounded multiplayer experience. Others, however, are frustrated—especially those who spent money on favorite skins they expected to use long-term.
One of the most-mourned losses is The Replacer skin. “RIP The Replacer,” one Redditor posted. “RIPlacer,” another joked. Others voiced disappointment over losing access to cosmetics like T-800 and Ballerina. “I bought The Replacer skin thinking I could use him in both games,” one user wrote.
Skeptical players have already predicted a cash-grab, suggesting that popular skins will just be resold in BO7. “Don’t worry, The Replacer will be replaced by the new The Replacer,” one fan quipped.
While the change only affects traditional multiplayer and not Warzone, it’s clear many players feel let down—especially those who expected their purchases to carry forward.
