Marvel’s upcoming blockbuster Avengers: Doomsday continues to build anticipation as more details emerge about its star-studded cast.
Among the returning characters is Namor, played by Black Panther: Wakanda Forever star Tenoch Huerta, who recently opened up about his role in the ensemble film.
Speaking with TV Azteca’s La Resolana Con El Capi, Huerta revealed the uncertainty he faced before Marvel officially confirmed his involvement. “We were waiting on the green light [from Marvel] and my agents in the U.S. were not sure about the news [of my return],” he explained. “They practically told us around 12 at night, and at 5:30 in the morning, the livestream started, and they said, ‘Hey, the news is about to drop.’ It was surprising and it was cool.”
Huerta confirmed Namor’s return but emphasized that the character’s presence will be more streamlined this time. “There are twentysomething characters involved in the story, which means we are each going to have smaller roles because there needs to be space for all the characters and all the universes. This makes it a much more simpler role, in terms of time and energy of making a film like this,” he said.
Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Avengers: Doomsday is shaping up to rival Avengers: Endgame in scale, bringing together heroes from across the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The massive cast includes Robert Downey Jr., Anthony Mackie, Tom Hiddleston, Winston Duke, Hannah John-Kamen, David Harbour, and newcomers from the Fantastic Four and X-Men franchises, such as Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, and Patrick Stewart.
With such an expansive lineup, Huerta suggested that every character, no matter how “simpler” the role may be, will play a key part in pushing the story forward.
